Crete

Crete is the largest Greek island, and one of the most magnificent and multidimensional islands of the Mediterranean sea. Reality and mythology, the combination of tradition and modern make Crete a cosmopolitan center and one of the most important tourist destinations in the Mediterranean.

Crete’s remarkable history is evident in the whole island, from the Minoan Palace of Knossos to the Venetian fortresses in Rethymno and the port of Chania , from the Ottoman mosques and the Byzantine monasteries to Ideon Andron, the cave where Zeus was born in Mythology. The Venetian port of Chania in west Crete is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece, and the capital, Heraklio, is a dynamic and lively city, the fifth largest in Greece.

Crete is well known for its natural beauty and the diverse landscape. Spectacular mountain ranges scattered with caves intersected by impressive gorges that flow into the sea, vast and beautiful olive groves, and lush forests are some of the places the visitor will meet. The rugged earth of Crete is dotted with vast and fertile plains. The east coast has the only palm forest in Europe and one of the most beautiful beaches. The south coast of Crete has some of the most spectacular beaches you can find in the Mediterranean and secluded coves and sea caves.
