Crete

Crete is the largest Greek island, and one of the most magnificent and multidimensional islands of the Mediterranean sea. Reality and mythology, the combination of tradition and modern make Crete a cosmopolitan center and one of the most important tourist destinations in the Mediterranean.

The culture, the natural beauty and the climate, the worm sun of the summer, and the breeze of the sea in combination with the dynamics of Crete’s  People have made it one of the largest and most contemporary tourist centers in Greece but at the same time one of the most blessed places of the country

Crete’s remarkable history is evident in the whole island, from the Minoan Palace of Knossos to the Venetian fortresses in Rethymno and the port of Chania , from the Ottoman mosques and the Byzantine monasteries to Ideon Andron, the cave where Zeus was born in Mythology. The Venetian port of Chania in west Crete is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece, and the capital, Heraklio, is a dynamic and lively city, the fifth largest in Greece.

Crete is well known for its natural beauty and the diverse landscape. Spectacular mountain ranges scattered with caves intersected by impressive gorges that flow into the sea, vast and beautiful olive groves, and lush forests are some of the places the visitor will meet. The rugged earth of Crete is dotted with vast and fertile plains. The east coast has the only palm forest in Europe and one of the most beautiful beaches. The south coast of Crete has some of the most spectacular beaches you can find in the Mediterranean and secluded coves and sea caves.

The Cretans are proud and hospitablered palace of Knossos was once the home of the legendary King Minos and is dated to 1700 BC. The luster and vibrancy of the murals and the sophistication of the device of the palace are impressive architectural and cultural elements even today. In  Heraklio also lies Phaistos, the second Minoan palace of the island, where they discovered the Phaistos disk with Linear A that has not been deciphered yet.
